C'est un plaisir toujours renouvelé que de découvrir,d'année en année,l'évolution de l'oeuvre de Patrick Nollet.
Parti d'oeuvres figuratives d'une grande vérité,il s'en éloigne,peu à peu,pour des créations plus abstraites dans lesquelles,l'artiste recherche non plus le naturalisme mais tente une approche psychologique de ses personnages.Mettant à bas la représentation anthropomorphique,il crée des formes qui traduisent l'énergie,la force,la puissance,mais également la tension,l'oppression,l'angoisse.L'homme n'est plus à l'image de Dieu,il devient prométhéen,homme nu en face à la nature et face à lui-même,devant lutter pour être,se construire,devenir simplement humain.
Nietszche,dans la Naissance de la tragédie,compare l'apolllinisme à "l'art du sculpteur qui a accès à la vérité supérieur des états de rêve que contrôle le contour sobre de son art."Il lui oppose le dionysisme ou l'art de la musique,qui est l'état d'ivresse "quand la nature entière s'émeut du désir."On retrouve l'idée que le sculpteur repose sur un ordre précaire constamment menacé par le déchainement des forces dionysiaques.
"Le grec apollinien sentait que son existence,toute de beauté et de mesure,reposait sur un mystérieux fondement de douleur et de connaissance que le dionysisme lui révélait à son tour (...) Apollon ne peut vivre sans Dionysos."
Par la suite,et les dernières oeuvres de Patrick Nollet le confirment,la présence humaine disparaît quelque peu de sa création pour s'ouvrir davandage à une sculpture organique,comme si définitivement mûr,le sculpteur qu'il est,peut s'aventurer vers un univers fait de signes,de symboles dans lesquels la question universelle de l'origine se reflète dans des formes arrondies et lisses,empreintes d'un certain onirisme à mi-chemin entre l'oeuf et le corps féminin.
Pour Patrick Nollet,il n'existe plus dorénavant de différence entre les figures humaines,les arbres et les formes non déterminées qu'engendre la nature.Les uns et les autres forment la masse sculpturale que l'artiste entreprend de creuser et d'ouvrir pour trouver un équilibre entre le plein et le vide.

Lors du vernissage de ma première exposition de sculpture , le 12 octobre 1991 à Lille , une invitée me demanda pendant une conversation :
ELLE : mais pourquoi donc avez vous choisi l'Art de la sculpture , c'est bien compliqué comme démarche !
sur ce , je souris un peu désorienté et lui répondit :
: vous savez ce qui a de compliquer c'est de répondre à une pareille question alors je vais essayer d'y répondre simplement : je m'appelle

ELLE : " oui et alors ?"
MOI : " prenez la phonétique de mon prénom et remplacez la première lettre de mon nom par la lettre dans l'alphabet qui lui est antècédante le "M"comme le "M" de Mère , la mère qui vous a fait ,le " M " de Aime , Aimer qui est primordial ,ou le "M" de Mort , la Mort qui nous finira "

MOI : " maintenant avec une simple visualisation de cela , lisez le à l'envers comme se lit l'hébreu par exemple , et prononcez le moi "

MOI : " J'espère maintenant avoir répondu simplement à vôtre question , ce que je viens de vous exprimé m'a été découvert il y a 3 mois .
Avant de vouloir commencer la sculpture et prendre la décision de devenir sculpteur ; étant depuis bien longtemps , en quête de pouvoir me démontrer rationnellement , ce que sont pour moi mes réalités spirituelles , je fut donc attiré par une méditation chinoise qui dura un peu plus d'une année ; elle m'appris une certaine universalité de mon âme et me permis de m'attirer vers cet art qu'est la sculpture , j'étais bien évidemment déjà enfant , en lien avec "la 3 dimension" dans l'espace , et cela s'accentua très sérieusement suite à ce travail , puis je découvris avec humour ce que je viens de vous preciser " .

It's always a pleasure to rediscover,year after year,the development of Patrick Nollet's work.
Starting with highly realisatic figurative works,he has gradually shifted toward more abstract creations in which he no longer keeps to natuturalism but introduces a psychological approach to his subjects.With less emphasis on anthromorphic representation,he now creates forms that express enegy,force,and power,but also tension,oppression,and anxiety.Man is no longer the image of God,but rather Promethean,the naked individual confrontation nature and self, strugglin to survive and become simply human.
In the Birth of Tragedy,Nietzsche compares the Appollonian to the art of the sculptor who has acces to the higher truth of dream states that control the sober contours of his art.This is opposed to the Dionysian,or the art of music,which is a state of intoxication where nature is aroused with desire.We find here the idea that the sculptor's world is based on a precarious order that is constantly threatened by outburst of Dionysian forces.
The Apollonian Greeks ... must have felt even more that their entire existence,with all its beaty and modernisation,rested on some hidden underground of suffering and knowledge that was reawakened through that very Dionysian ... Appolo could not live without Dionysus !"
With time,as the latest works of Patrick Nollet confirm,the human presence has somewhat disappeared from his works to make way for organic sculpture,as if in his definitive maturity as a sculptor he can venture into a world of signs and symbols in wich the universal question of origins is reflected in rounded,smooth forms,traces of dream-like state somewhere between the egg and the female body.
For Patrick Nollet,there is henceforth no difference between human figures and undetermined forms that engender nature.Both of them form a sculptural mass that the artist carves and opens up to achieve a balance between fullness and emptiness."
